Together with athletes and allies throughout the country, today we recognize and celebrate the achievements of girls and women in athletics. On this day, we hope to continue to inspire girls and women to play, be active, and to realize their full power and potential. While this celebration only happens once per year, we know that each day girls and women are working towards being the best version of themselves, breaking down walls and ceilings, and pursuing their passions in athletics and sport.

This year marks the 15th Annual Essay Contest inviting girls grades K-12 to share their stories, ideas, and experiences in sport. We had many unique, funny, creative, and passionate entries this year. After great deliberation, we are pleased to announce this year’s winners:

Grades K-2: Ember Davis, 2nd grade, Oak Orchard Primary School

Grades 3-5: Harper Steffen, 3rd grade, Fyle Elementary School

Grades 6-8: Sophie Wood, 8th grade, Livonia Middle School

Grades 9-12: Redeat Shumaker, 9th grade, Rush-Henrietta Senior High

Please visit the page on this site to read these amazing entries. Thank you for supporting female athletes today and every day. Themes for the 2025 contest will be announced in November of this year.
